Fulmer among 10 top prospect performers Thursday

Mets No. 12 prospect has allowed just 2 earned runs in his past 6 starts for B-Mets

Mets No. 12 prospect Michael Fulmer continues to dominate for Double-A Binghamton.

The 6-foot-3 right-hander gave up one unearned run while striking out seven in seven innings as the B-Mets defeated New Britain, 2-1, on Thursday night. Fulmer has now given up just two earned runs over his past six starts, which have totaled 37 1/3 innings.

That stretch has cut his ERA from 3.86 to 2.06 in a little more than a month and Fulmer (4-1) is on pace for new career bests in wins and earned run average. He's also a proficient strikeout artist, with his above-average fastball and slider.

The 22-year-old has now collected 63 Ks this year and 312 in 335 1/3 innings in the Minors. That's nearly a strikeout per inning and he's notched at least six punchouts in each of his previous five starts.

Angels No. 9 prospect Chris Ellis remains undefeated for Double-A Arkansas. The 6-foot-4 right-hander gave up just three hits and three walks while striking out four in six shutout innings against Midland, pushing his record to 4-0 in six starts for the Travelers. His ERA sits at 2.78, a much better mark than the 3.88 he managed while going 4-5 in 11 starts for Class A Advanced Inland Empire earlier this season. Across both levels, he's 5-0 in his past seven starts and he has not lost since May 29.

Braves No. 10 prospect Tyrell Jenkins and Orioles No. 8 prospect Tyler Wilson went head-to-head in Triple-A Gwinnett's 1-0 win over Norfolk. Jenkins, making his Triple-A debut, got the better of Wilson as he struck out six in seven shutout innings. He's now pitched 100 innings this season, the first time he's reached the century mark as a pro. "It's pretty special," Jenkins told MiLB.com. "Now, I just want to hit 200." Wilson delivered 5 2/3 innings of six-hit, one-run baseball in the losing effort, dropping to 3-5 on the year.

Brewers No. 1 prospect (No. 73 overall) Orlando Arcia picked up his first multi-RBI game since June 26 by going 3-for-4 with two doubles in Biloxi's 8-5 win over Tennessee. The Venezuelan also stole two bases -- his 11th and 12th of the season -- on Thursday and is hitting .312/.354/.459 with 24 doubles, five triples, four dingers and 46 RBIs. Arcia has recorded two three-hit games in the past five days.

Cubs No. 8 prospect Jen-Ho Tseng had a perfect-game bid broken up in the seventh inning of Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach's 1-0 loss to Winston-Salem. Tseng actually picked up the 'L' despite giving up just two hits and one earned run in eight innings. The right-hander also struck out five and cut his ERA from 4.28 to 3.91. Tseng hasn't won since May 25, although he's given up just one earned run in his past two starts (13 total innings).

Giants No. 16 prospect Adam Duvall ripped his 17th homer of the year, a three-run shot in the first inning for Triple-A Sacramento in the team's 5-4 13-inning win. The first baseman was pulled after three at-bats, but not before he gave the River Cats an early lead. Duvall had struggled a bit entering Thursday night's contest -- he was 1-for-11 over his previous three games -- but that followed a scorching stretch that included 12 hits, four doubles, and seven RBIs across seven games. He now sits at .261 with 56 RBIs on the season.

Rays No. 8 prospect Taylor Guerrieri turned in his best performance of the season on Thursday as he did not allow a hit while striking out six batters and walking one in four innings for Class A Advanced Charlotte. The Stone Crabs fell to St. Lucie, 7-2, and all of the Mets' damage came after Guerrieri left the moung. It's been a long couple of years for the 22-year-old. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in summer 2013, he was suspended 50 games for drug use in October of that year and missed almost all of 2014 due to a combination of the two. This year, he's been on a tight innings restriction, but that hasn't stopped Guerreri from showing off the stuff that made him a first-round Draft pick in 2011. The right-hander is 1-1 after a no-decision Thursday, but he cut his ERA from 2.76 to 2.43. His K/BB line is 41-to-7 in 33 1/3 innings.

Rays No. 20 prospect Richie Shaffer went 4-for-4 with two home runs, pushing his season total to 21. That number is currently good for third in the Minors, behind Twins No. 12 prospect Adam Brett Walker (23) and Astros No. 11 prospect A.J. Reed (22). Shaffer, a first-round Draft pick in 2012, has increased his homer total in each of his four pro seasons, having just passed his 2014 total -- and previous career-high -- of 19. The 2015 All-Star Futures Game selection has been a force across two levels this season. He was promoted from Double-A Montgomery after hitting seven homers and 27 RBIs in 39 games and has recorded 14 dingers and 24 RBIs since joining the Bulls in late May.

Yankees No. 3 prospect Jorge Mateo extended his Minor League stolen-base lead by swiping his 55th and 56th bags in Class A Charleston's 1-0 win over Kannapolis. The 20-year-old shortstop finished 2-for-4 with a triple and is hitting .271/.333/.384 with 13 doubles, seven triples, two homers and 29 RBIs this season. However, it's his work on the basepaths that's the most noteworthy part of his game. Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2012, the speedy Mateo now has 120 career stolen bases in 169 games.
