Morse still a question mark for NLDS roster
WASHINGTON -- Giants left fielder-first baseman Michael Morse took batting and fielding practice Thursday, leaving the club's braintrust to ponder whether the slugger will be fit to include on the National League Division Series roster that will be announced Friday.
Morse, who missed virtually all of September with a strained left oblique, hit .279 with 16 homers and 61 RBIs in 131 games. He spent 2009-12 with Washington, amassing career highs in homers (31) and RBIs (95) in 2011.
"We will make a call if we think he is ready. He is close," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "I think [Thursday] will make that determination. Hopefully all goes well today. That is what we are waiting on before we set the roster, to be honest."
Bochy cited the size of San Francisco's pitching contingent as another possible topic of debate. Asked if the Giants might be contemplating a 12-man staff, Bochy replied, "Could be."
