Miggy goes deep in fourth consecutive game

DETROIT -- The venue and the opponent change. The temperature drops about 30 degrees. Miguel Cabrera still homers.

Even for Tigers teammates who have watched him for years, it's becoming a regular sight. At four consecutive games, he's one away from tying the franchise record.

Five Tigers share the mark, among them Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg, Tigers legend Willie Horton, and All-Stars Rudy York and Vic Wertz.

The last Tigers player to do it was Marcus Thames, who homered in five consecutive games from June 13-17, 2008.

Cabrera pulled a 2-2 pitch from Twins lefty Scott Diamond in the first inning Thursday and lofted it into the left-field seats for a 2-0 lead, his sixth homer in four games and 14th of the season. It came minutes after Baltimore's Chris Davis hit his league-leading 15th homer, so Cabrera remained one off the pace for another Triple Crown run.

"When I initially threw it, I thought it was better than when I saw it on replay," Diamond said. "He still didn't get it completely, but it shows how strong he is and how he is able to turn on that pitch."

The four-game homer streak ties Cabrera's career high from April 10-14, 2004, his first full season in the big leagues with the Marlins.

Cabrera added an RBI infield single in the fifth inning of a 7-6 win, raising his league-leading average to .391. He's a couple hits from heading into Memorial Day weekend batting .400.

Cabrera also walked and scored in the seventh, becoming the 20th active Major League player to score 1,000 runs in his career.
