Almonte makes memorable Triple-A debut

Royals No. 4 prospect allows 1 hit and 1 run in 5 frames, strikes out 8 for Omaha

Right-hander Miguel Almonte, the Royals' No. 4 prospect, made his debut for Triple-A Omaha on Friday night, allowing just one run on one hit over five innings.

Almonte threw 81 pitches -- 50 for strikes -- and struck out eight Nashville hitters, while walking one. It was Almonte's first career start at Triple-A. He had posted a 4.03 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP in 17 starts for Double-A Northwest Arkansas this season.

Almonte signed with the Royals in November 2011. He is the 66th-rated prospect overall, according to MLB.com.
