Matheny's challenge results in Braun out at home

MILWAUKEE -- For the second straight game, the Cardinals used instant replay to help fizzle a Brewers rally on Saturday.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny used his challenge on a first-inning play at the plate in which Ryan Braun was initially ruled safe as he tried to score on Aramis Ramirez's flyout to left field. Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, who caught Matt Holliday's throw home and had blocked the plate with his glove, immediately summoned Matheny out of the dugout to request the challenge.

After replay review, the call was overturned and the Cardinals were credited with the double play. That helped stall the momentum the Cardinals had already provided the Brewers by committing three errors leading to two unearned runs.

The successful challenge improved Matheny's replay success rate to 9-for-25. He has won seven of his last nine challenges.
