Brewers sign Leach, Additon to Minor League deals

MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers are bringing back left-hander Brent Leach for a third season with the organization, signing the 32-year-old reliever on Monday to a Minor League contract that for the first time includes an invitation to big league Spring Training camp.

Leach, whose only Major League experience was with the Dodgers in 2009, split last season between Double-A Huntsville and Triple-A Nashville. He posted a 3.22 ERA and 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings over 62 relief appearances and one spot start.

The Brewers are relatively thin in the left-handed pitching department, with only Will Smith, Mike Strong and Wei-Chung Wang on the 40-man roster. Strong and Wang are expected to begin next season in the Minor Leagues.

The team also on Monday signed left-hander Nick Additon to a Minor League contract, but Additon's deal does not include a big league camp invite. The 26-year-old has appeared at the Triple-A level in each of the past four seasons, pitching both as a starter and a reliever.
