Mauer on his way to Houston to rejoin team

OAKLAND -- First baseman Joe Mauer got through his rehab assignment with Class A Cedar Rapids without any issues and remains on track to be activated from the 15-day disabled list to rejoin the Twins on Monday in Houston.

Mauer, who has been on the DL with a strained right oblique since July 2, went 2-for-4 Saturday while playing nine innings at first base for a second straight game. Mauer hit .400 (6-for-15) in four games with Cedar Rapids and wasn't in the lineup Sunday, as he was traveling to Houston.

The Twins, however, will wait until Monday to activate Mauer from the DL. The Twins are still determining their corresponding roster move, as there's still a chance outfielder Oswaldo Arcia will need to be placed on the 15-day disabled list with lower back soreness. Arcia tried to hit in the batting cage before Sunday's game but still had issues with his back.

"We'll get to Houston and see which way we're going," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.

Right-hander Ricky Nolasco is also expected to be activated from the DL in the coming days, as he finished his rehab assignment with Cedar Rapids on Sunday. The right-hander went 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. He also struck out six and didn't walk a batter.
