Ortiz set to join Rangers' Major League staff

Promotion expected for Minor League catching coordinator

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers are expected to promote Minor League catching coordinator Hector Ortiz to their Major League coaching staff. Ortiz will replace Bengie Molina, who is not expected to return.

The Rangers want someone who can work with their young catchers -- Robinson Chirinos, Tomas Telis and Jorge Alfaro -- and Ortiz has been instrumental in their development through the Minor Leagues.

The Rangers are expected to make an announcement on their coaching staff by Friday, including the appointment of Steve Buechele as the bench coach as well as the return of pitching coach Mike Maddux and hitting coach Dave Magadan.
