Nats' contest against Phillies postponed

PHILADELPHIA -- Saturday's game between the Nationals and Phillies was postponed because of rain. The teams will play a straight doubleheader at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday afternoon, with the first game starting at 1:05 p.m. ET.

Stephen Strasburg will start the first game for Washington, but manager Matt Williams declined to say who will pitch in the second game. As he put it, "we'll see how Game 1 goes and adjust from there. But let's get through the first one first."

Williams didn't rule out right-hander Tanner Roark getting the Game 2 start. He has spent most of season in the bullpen, but he made five starts and is 3-0 with a 3.86 ERA.

"It depends on where we are at and what we are doing," Williams said.

The Nationals and Phillies managed to play an inning and a half Saturday before the umpires ordered the tarp on the field. There was a 1-hour, 27-minute rain delay before the game was called. Williams was not happy after the announcement because it meant he burned a pitcher in left-hander Gio Gonzalez, who threw 18 pitches.

"I'm not very happy about it," Williams said. "The forecast said it was going to be playable. Clearly, it wasn't."

Gonzalez was not happy that he only pitched an inning, and he doesn't know when his next start will be. Williams will not make a decision about Gonzalez until after the doubleheader.

"This [stinks]. The weather situation, tough situation, I guess that was it. There was nothing more to it," Gonzalez said.
