Zimmerman nearing rehab assignment

BALTIMORE -- Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman's left foot continues to feel better, according to manager Matt Williams.

Zimmerman took batting practice and ground balls for the second day in a row Saturday, and the Nationals are hoping that he can start a rehab assignment after the Minor League All-Star break. Zimmerman has not played since June 9 because of plantar fasciitis.

"It depends on how he comes through the next few days," Williams said. "But he feels good. I know that. It's a good sign. The walking and the jogging, he is putting a little more stress on it now. He feels a lot better."
