Goldy becomes father, set to return Saturday

CHICAGO -- The D-backs expect first baseman Paul Goldschmidt to rejoin the team in time for Saturday afternoon's 14-5 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Goldschmidt flew from Denver to Phoenix late Tuesday night following the D-backs' day-night doubleheader against the Rockies to be with his wife, Amy, who gave birth to the couple's first child, a boy, on Wednesday.

"I think the original plan was he's supposed to be back late tonight," D-backs manager Chip Hale said prior to Friday's game vs. the Cubs. "Fly in and be ready to play tomorrow. I have not heard from him, so I'm assuming that's what the plan is going to be. If he needs more time, he'll let us know."
