Tanaka to throw another 'pen session Friday
Yankees righty reports no issues day after throwing 30 pitches
ST. PETERSBURG -- Masahiro Tanaka is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Friday in Kansas City, which could set the right-hander up to begin a Minor League rehab assignment.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Tanaka reported no issues on Wednesday, one day after he fired 30 pitches from the bullpen mound at Tropicana Field. Tanaka is on the disabled list with a right forearm strain and inflammation in his right wrist.
Girardi also said that the Yankees have started discussions about activating left-hander Chris Capuano, who earned a victory on Tuesday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at Norfolk, hurling six innings of two-run, seven-hit ball.
Capuano walked none and struck out three, throwing 55 of 76 pitches for strikes, and he could be close to being big league ready. He has been on the disabled list since sustaining a Grade 2 strain of his right quadriceps during a Spring Training start.
Girardi said that he spoke to general manager Brian Cashman and pitching coach Larry Rothschild about Capuano, who has made three rehab starts.
"Obviously we want to see how he feels physically and have a chance to talk to him," Girardi said. "We've got to make a decision. It's not urgent that we make it today or tomorrow, but we'll probably have him throw a side tomorrow and have him be on line depending on what we do."
