News & Notes About the A's Upcoming Homestand

OAKLAND - The Oakland A's will welcome a pair of American League powerhouses to the O.co Coliseum for a seven-game homestand beginning with a special 1:05 p.m. Memorial Day matinee on Monday, May 25, against the Detroit Tigers.

Led by Miguel Cabrera and former Athletics slugger Yoenis Céspedes, the Tigers will square off against the A's in a three-game set beginning with Monday's homestand opener.

After the three-game Tigers series, Alex Rodriguez and the New York Yankees make their annual visit to the Coliseum on Thursday for a four-game series, which includes a trio of evening games and a Sunday matinee.

The week-long homestand features the following promotions and giveaways: Memorial Day A's Road Cap presented by Comerica Bank (May 25); Sport Clips Charity Cuts (May 25-26); Stephen Vogt Referee Bobblehead with sound, driven by Chevrolet (May 28); and Throwback Thursday presented by Chevron ExtraMile (May 28).

Promotions & Special Events

Memorial Day A's Road Cap, presented by Comerica Bank: On Monday, May 25, 15,000 fans will receive a Memorial Day A's Road Cap, presented by Comerica Bank. The green road hat features Oakland's iconic "A's" logo with an American flag on the side to commemorate Memorial Day.

Sport Clips Charity Cuts: From May 25-26, Sport Clips will be on site providing haircuts to fans in exchange for donations to Freedom Alliance and the Wounded Warrior Project. The haircuts will be provided in Section 236 in left field of the O.co Coliseum during the first two games of the Tigers series.

Stephen Vogt Referee Bobblehead with sound, driven by Chevrolet: On Thursday, May 28, when the A's play host to the New York Yankees, 15,000 fans will receive a Stephen Vogt Referee Bobblehead with sound, driven by Chevrolet. The bobblehead features audio of his famous referee impersonation as well as the "I believe in Stephen Vogt" fan chant.

Community Relations

Honorary Bat Girl: On Sunday, May 31, the A's will honor breast cancer survivor and A's season ticket holder Michelle Iwai as the Honorary Bat Girl at the 1:05 p.m. game against the New York Yankees. The Milpitas resident will be honored in a pre-game presentation on the field and will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at that afternoon's game.

Green Stampede Homework Club: On select games throughout the season, elementary school students will visit O.co Coliseum to receive help with their homework from tutors and aids. An A's player will visit and sign autographs for the students as a way to congratulate them for their hard work. After the students have finished their homework, they are able to sit in the stands and watch the game.

A's Community Fund Silent Auctions: Every Saturday and Sunday home game (and other select games), the A's Community Fund hosts a silent auction featuring signed and unsigned A's memorabilia as well as game-used items. The silent auctions are located in the A's fan center behind section 120 and end with the last out in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Mathletics School Visit: On Tuesday, May 26, A's outfielder Billy Burns will visit St. Bede Catholic School in Hayward as part of the A's Mathletics Program, presented by ROSS and Comcast SportsNet California.

Take the Field with the A's: The Take the Field with the A's program gives youth baseball and softball teams the chance to live out their Major League dreams. On Sunday, May 31, youth players from a local youth baseball or softball team will join Oakland A's players on the field during the National Anthem. Each participant receives an autographed baseball and t-shirt, courtesy of Wells Fargo.

Food Bank Wednesdays: On Wednesday, May 27-and select Wednesdays throughout the season-A's players' wives and girlfriends will be on-site to help collect cans of food and monetary donations and distribute ticket vouchers for future games and player cards. 

Home Run Readers: On Wednesday, May 27, students from local schools will receive tickets to the 12:35 p.m. game as a reward for achieving their reading goals set by their teachers. The tickets are courtesy of the A's Community Fund and Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids.
