Anderson slated for two relief innings on Saturday

OAKLAND -- Left-hander Brett Anderson is still slated to pitch Saturday for Triple-A Sacramento in his first rehab appearance after injuring his right foot in May.

Anderson will pitch two innings in relief, which suggests the A's hope to use him in a similar role when he returns to the Major Leagues.

"It depends on what our needs are," Melvin said earlier this week. "We're keeping our options open, but we can get him back quicker in the bullpen, and that may be how we handle it to begin with."

Anderson threw 28 pitches on Tuesday before batting practice and participated in pitchers' fielding practice, and Melvin said his foot felt fine.

The next step of his return is reliant on how he performs and feels on Saturday.
