Oakland loses Parrino to Texas' waiver claim

PHOENIX -- The A's lost infielder Andy Parrino to the American League West-rival Rangers via waivers on Monday.

The move came four days after he was designated for assignment by the A's after they acquired infielder Jake Elmore from the White Sox for cash.

Parrino's time in the A's organization was short-lived. Originally acquired by the club with hurler Andrew Werner from San Diego for righty Tyson Ross at the end of 2012, Parrino had a pair of stints with the A's last year but appeared in only 14 games, hitting .118 in that span.

He spent the balance of the season with Triple-A Sacramento, where he hit .210 with a .602 OPS in 108 games.

Monday's transaction brought to mind the last time an A's player was claimed by the Rangers. Adam Rosales was designated four times in 13 days in the second half last year, claimed twice by the Rangers and once by his original team. He's since stuck with Texas.

"Yeah," said manager Bob Melvin, smiling, "this kind of has that Rosie feel to it, but we'll see. Good for [Parrino]. We would've loved to have him back, but certainly for a guy to be put on their roster in that fashion, it's good for him."
