Infante starts to connect in wins over Brewers

MILWAUKEE -- Baseball indeed is a funny game. Consider that Royals second baseman Omar Infante was scuffling along as one of the worst everyday hitters in baseball over the last month.

So when Infante overtook Houston's Jose Altuve to lead AL second basemen in the All-Star voting on Monday, Twitter around the country howled in protest.

So what happens next? Infante roars out of his slump. In the two games since Infante got the news he was the vote leader, he collected five hits in eight at-bats.

Infante had a three-hit night and scored three runs in the Royals' 7-2 win over the Brewers on Tuesday night.

For a rare time this season, Infante was smiling postgame.

"I feel more comfortable at the plate," he said. "I worked a lot with the hitting coach [Dale Sveum]. I'm working with my top hand more. Made good contact. I feel better. I need to continue like today."

Actually, Infante has been hitting some balls hard in the last week -- most of them were caught.

"It's better," he said. "I have made good contact, but not lucky sometimes. That's baseball. Sometimes you hit it hard, it's caught. Sometimes you break your bat and get hits. That's baseball.

"But I have to keep working. That's what I have control over."
