On eve of Reds' first workout, full squad reports

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Monday marked the reporting date for the full squad at Reds Spring Training. Everybody was accounted for, including lefty reliever Jose Mijares, who was a late arrival on Sunday night after having trouble getting a flight out of Venezuela.

Mijares threw a bullpen session with the other pitchers on Monday morning.

Here are some other items of note from the day:

• Position players are scheduled to undergo physicals Tuesday morning, followed by the first full-squad workout.

• Reds manager Bryan Price expected the first live batting-practice session to be held on Wednesday. That's when Reds pitchers will face the team's hitters in the batting cages in simulated game action.

• Price has enjoyed seeing the performances of the pitchers and catchers through the early workouts over the past week.

"This is a fun time for an old pitching coach, to be able to watch these first five days of pitchers and catchers," Price said. "I haven't been disappointed by anybody to this point, I'll tell you. Certainly the next step will be the live batting practice, especially the young guys. It's kind of fun. It's the first time there's a little bit more stress thrown on their plate throwing to big league hitters and handling that next step."
