O's designate Wright for assignment

The Orioles designated left-hander Wesley Wright for assignment on Wednesday, after activating him from the 60-day disabled list.

Wright, who signed a $1.7 million free-agent contract this offseason, made only two starts for the Baltimore this season before a left trapezius strain forced him to the DL on April 11. He was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 24, and he was on a Minor League rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk.

Wright struggled at Norfolk, allowing 11 runs on 15 hits and seven walks (two intentional) in 11 2/3 innings. The O's would have had to activate Wright from his rehab stint that ended Sunday, but he did not have a clear role in their bullpen anymore.

Baltimore now has 10 days to trade or release Wright.
