Orioles-Nationals postponed; makeup game is Aug. 4

WASHINGTON -- Tuesday's game between the Nats and Orioles at Nationals Park was postponed because of rain.

The makeup game is scheduled for Aug. 4 at Nationals Park. Fans who have tickets for Tuesday's game will be able to use them on Aug. 4.

According to Nationals manager Matt Williams, there wasn't any talk about playing a day-night doubleheader -- one game at Nationals Park and the second game at Camden Yards -- on Wednesday.

"We have a mutual off-day on the fourth of August, so we will determine what time that game will be," Williams said. "Since there is a mutual off-day, we didn't even go that far [about playing two games on Wednesday]. It's been done before. If it had to be done, I guess it could be done."

Williams already set up his rotation for the rest of the series. Right-hander Doug Fister, who was scheduled to pitch in Tuesday's game, will throw Wednesday at Camden Yards.

"He was the first one in the office. He is ready to go for tomorrow," Williams said about Fister.

Left-hander Gio Gonzalez will throw in Thursday's game against Baltimore. In the series before the All-Star break, right-handers Jordan Zimmermann, Stephen Strasburg and Tanner Roark will face the Phillies. Roark will work out of the bullpen for the next couple of days, while the rest of the rotation will pitch on regular rest.

Although the Nationals didn't play on Tuesday, they are now tied with the Braves for first place in the National League East after Atlanta lost to the Mets, 8-3, at Citi Field.
