Outstanding offensive output unmatched in Buck's tenure

BALTIMORE -- The O's offense scored the most runs in manager Buck Showalter's tenure on Sunday afternoon, unloading on Boston in an 18-7 win that marked the club's biggest single-game offensive output since 2006.

"It's huge. Huge for us," said Steve Pearce, who had three RBIs. "We know we've got a good offense. So we know we can score runs, and it definitely is [the goal] to keep the ball rolling going into the next series."

The offensive attack was led by a five-RBI performance from Delmon Young, who went 3-for-6 out of the cleanup spot. Chris Davis also drove in three runs and designated hitter Jimmy Paredes went 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the 20-hit afternoon.

"It was good," Young said of watching Paredes raise his season average to .429. "I think every player needs to have zero options left when they go into Spring Training, because every player from [closer Zach] Britton and everyone has been lights out in their out-of-option year."

Paredes is 15-for-35 with four doubles, a triple, three home runs and nine RBIs since coming off the disabled list. Young has also put together a nice start to the season, batting .368 and hitting the five-RBI mark for the fourth time in his career.

"I was proud of the walks and the baserunning as much as anything," Showalter said of his lineup, which had seven players with multihit days. "Guys stayed patient had some good at-bats when there was a lot of emotion around the ballpark."
