O's part-timers to be paid for lost hours
Employees affected by postponements, relocated games during unrest in city
The Orioles have stepped to the plate to assure that none of their part-time employees are hurt financially from the civil unrest in Baltimore that recently affected six games that were scheduled to be played at Camden Yards.
The team will pay the hourly employees who lost work hours during the week of April 27 due to the rioting.
"Due to the extraordinary circumstances that led to several cancelled or rescheduled games, the Orioles organization will compensate all hourly employees for hours that would have been ordinarily worked the week of April 27. This adjustment will be added to your 5/29 paycheck," the Orioles said in a Tuesday letter to employees.
The Orioles had to postpone two games due to the unrest, and a third was played without any fans present due to security concerns. In addition, a weekend series against the Rays was moved to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg on May 1-3 because of the situation within the city.
Delaware North will also be compensating its concession workers for the time they missed due to security concerns.
"Delaware North Sportservice wants to publicly thank its loyal local associates who showed great patience during the week of April 27th," the company said via a statement. "Due to the extraordinary circumstances that led to three games being moved from Oriole Park and another being closed to fans, we wanted to show our appreciation and support to our nearly 1,000 game day associates by voluntarily providing each with a monetary payment. We are very proud of our associates and their dedication to serving up the best game day experience to Oriole fans."
