Gausman makes first start for Norfolk

DETROIT -- Kevin Gausman made his first start for Norfolk on Friday night.

Gausman, the Orioles' No. 2 prospect, was scratched Thursday night with with the possibility that he could be the O's extra player if there was a doubleheader in Detroit on Saturday.

Gausman threw 71 pitches (44 strikes) in 4 2/3 innings. He did not allow a run, yielding three hits and walking two and striking out six.

Lefty T.J. McFarland had his start pushed back a day and will go on Sunday in Norfolk, following Steve Johnson. This allows the Orioles to space out their options, so they don't get into a situation where both Gausman and McFarland are unavailable to help the big league club.
