Arcia day to day after tweaking back on swing

MINNEAPOLIS -- Right fielder Oswaldo Arcia left Monday's 8-6 loss to the Tigers with tightness in his upper left back after a big swing-and-miss in the sixth inning. He's day to day and will be further evaluated on Tuesday, according to manager Ron Gardenhire.

Arcia, who'd homered in his previous at-bat, in the fifth inning, took a mighty swing at a 2-1 fastball from Tigers right-hander Max Scherzer and grabbed his back immediately after. He remained in the game despite being visited by head trainer Tony Leo and Gardenhire, and struck out looking on the next pitch.

Arcia went back out to right field but was removed for a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning, with Eduardo Nunez grounding into an inning-ending double play after the Twins tied the score.

The Twins remain hopeful that it's just a minor injury for Arcia, who ranks second on the team in homers, with 18.

"He got a little goosey and I think that's how he ended up hurting his back a little bit," Gardenhire said. "He took a pretty radical swing there. Hopefully, it won't be too many days there. He's saying he's OK, but he's a little sore."
