Myers among six Opening Day first-timers

ST. PETERSBURG -- Six Rays players -- Chris Archer, Wil Myers, Logan Forsythe, Brandon Gomes, Brandon Guyer, and Jake Odorizzi -- experienced their first Opening Day on a Major League roster Monday.

Myers, who was the 2013 American League Rookie of the Year, said he wanted to approach the special day like any other game.

"The feeling is a lot like the postseason last year," Myers said. "Everybody's excited to get going again. I just want to stay calm, not try to do too much, stay within my approach."

Guyer said he had difficulty putting the experience into words.

"I've been up to the big leagues before, but to have my first Opening Day, and experience it," Guyer said. "You hear so much from the veterans. They've been through a lot. But the first one is in their memories and stuff."

Archer called the day "special."

"For me, personally, it's always been a dream to not only be in the Major Leagues, but experience everything that comes with it," Archer said. "So Opening Day, Jackie Robinson Day and the fact on my first Opening Day, I get to see David Price pitch. He's been my favorite pitcher before I even came over here. I'm getting chill bumps thinking about it."
