Sandoval exits with right quad tightness

BOSTON -- Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval left Saturday's 5-4, extra-innings loss to the Blue Jays due to right quad tightness.

Sandoval is considered day-to-day and will have his status reevaluated when he arrives at the park on Sunday. The Red Sox are unsure whether he will be available to play in the coming days.

Utility man Jeff Bianchi replaced Sandoval at third base when the Sox took the field in the seventh. Sandoval struck out in the previous inning swinging at an outside knuckleball from R.A. Dickey.

"There wasn't one event [that triggered the injury]," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "He just felt some gradual tightness as the game wore on, felt it as he was swinging in that final at-bat. It was his front leg he's hitting against, and felt the tightness continue on. [The move was] precautionary, [we] got him out of there."

Sandoval belted a double and laced a two-run single up the middle in his first two at-bats of the game. He is 8-for-23 (.348) since taking two days off last week to clear his head.
