Padres and Sycuan announce five-year partnership renewal

Renewal kicks off with surprise giveaway for all fans tonight, on Opening Night

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation today announced a five-year partnership renewal. Under the agreement, Sycuan will remain the exclusive Native American Business Ventures and Native American Government partner of the Padres through 2018, bringing the total length of the relationship between the two entities to 23 years.

"We are proud to continue our longstanding relationship with Sycuan," said Padres President & CEO Mike Dee. "I'd like to thank Chairman Tucker and Sycuan for their continued support of the Padres and their many contributions to the San Diego community. We look forward to many more years of this outstanding partnership."

"Sycuan has been a proud partner of the San Diego Padres for nearly two decades," said Daniel J. Tucker, Chairman of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation. "Our shared commitment to the San Diego community is what has made this such a fruitful partnership thus far, and we expect that to continue for years to come."

The renewal celebration begins tonight, with a surprise Opening Night giveaway. All fans in attendance at tonight's game will receive a Jerry Coleman Tribute Camouflage T-Shirt presented by Sycuan (a photo of the T-Shirt is attached). The Opening Series presented by Sycuan continues on Tuesday, April 1, when all fans in attendance will receive an Opening Day hat presented by Sycuan.

As part of the agreement, Sycuan will be the presenting partner of Native American Day at Petco Park on September 19, 2014. In addition, Sycuan will remain the presenting partner of the Padres Foundation's annual Shirts off their Backs fundraiser during the final homestand of the season. One of the foundation's biggest fundraisers, Shirts off their Backs raises money through the sale of $1 scratcher tickets for the chance to win the jersey off the back of a Padres player or coach following the final home game of the season.
