Kelly tosses six scoreless frames in rehab outing
Padres prospect strikes out six batters, walks none to get victory
Right-hander Casey Kelly, the Padres' No. 4 prospect, made his fourth rehab start Monday as he works back from Tommy John surgery. Kelly threw six scoreless innings, helping Double-A San Antonio to a 4-0 victory against Frisco.
Kelly threw 71 pitches and struck out six batters. He walked none and gave up four hits. He earned the win, his first since defeating the Rockies on Sept. 15, 2012.
Kelly, ranked No. 75 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2013 and missed the whole season. He made his return to the mound this month with Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore. He started twice for the Storm before moving up to the Missions.
During his rehab assignment, Kelly has thrown 20 1/3 innings. He has struck out 17 batters and walked one.
San Antonio's offense was led Monday by catcher Austin Hedges and outfielder Rymer Liriano, the Padres' Nos. 1 and 6 prospects. They both went 1-for-4 and scored a run.
