Renfroe (.348) has two more hits for Triple-A El Paso

Chihuahuas, Fort Wayne lose in races for playoff berths

Right fielder Hunter Renfroe, the Padres first-round pick (13th overall) had two more hits at Triple-A El Paso Saturday night.

Renfroe was 2-for-5 with a run scored to raise his batting average to .348 (16-for-46) in 11 games since joining the Chihuahuas with four homers and 11 RBIs.

El Paso suffered a 4-1 loss to Oklahoma City Saturday - their fourth loss in six games at Southwest University Park this week - but remained 2 1Ž2 games behind Pacific Coast League Pacific Southern Division-leading Las Vegas with 10 games approaching Monday's start of a head-to-head, four-game series in Las Vegas.

In other news Saturday, low Single-A Fort Wayne's Midwest League magic number remained at one following a rain-shortened loss to Lake County at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne. The Missions lead in the second-half, Eastern Division standings remains at four with nine games to play.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Rookie League Padres concluded their season amidst a flurry of moves in the organization.

First baseman Luis Domoromo was placed on the seven-day disabled list with Double-A San Antonio while infielder Gabriel Quintana and right-handed pitcher Eric Yardley were promoted from high Single-A Lake Elsinore to the Missions. Infielder Ramiro Pena was activated from the seven-day disabled list with El Paso while catcher Tim Federowicz was placed on the seven day disabled list.

AROUND THE FARM:

TRIPLE-A EL PASO (71-63): Oklahoma City 4, CHIHUAHUAS 1 - 1B Jake Goebbert (.302) was 2-for-4 and drove in Renfroe with El Paso's lone run. Pena (.309) doubled as a pinch-hitter in his return. LF Alex Dickseron (.310, Poway High) was 1-for-3 with his 35th double. Starting RHP Daniel McCutchen (8-8, 3.73) allowed two runs on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in seven innings. RHP Marcos Mateo (2.03) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits in an inning. RHP Jay Jackson (2.41) had a strikeout in a perfect inning.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (56-75): CORPUS CHRISTI 8, Missions 6 - 2B Benji Gonzalez (.231) was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a RBI and two runs scored. CF Alberth Martinez (.274) was 2-for-4 with a double, his 11th homer and two RBIs. DH Yeison Asencio (.302) was 2-for-4. Starting RHP Ronald Herrera, 20, allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. LHP Brandon Alger (3.76) struck out a hitter in 1 1/3 perfect innings. RHP Yardley allowed two runs on four hits in an inning to lose his Double-A debut. RHP Michael Dimock (2.38) struck out two in a perfect inning.

HIGH SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (47-85): LANCASTER 7, Storm 4 - RF Nick Schulz (.242) was 2-for-4 with his 12th homer. 1B Marcus Davis (.249) had two doubles in four at-bats. DH Matthew Chavez (.308) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. 2B Ricardo Valenzuela (.220) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Starting RHP Kyle Lloyd (6-11, 4.90 ERA) allowed six runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings. LHP Chris Nunn (6.44) allowed a hit with a strikeout in two scoreless innings. RHP Zech Lemond (5.68) allowed a run on a hit and a walk in an inning.

LOW SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (72-57): Lake County 5, TIN CAPS 4 (shortened to 6 innings, rain): 3B Luis Tejada (.293) was 2-for-3 with his third homer, two RBIs and two runs scored. 2B Luis Urias (.314) was 2-for-2 with a walk and a RBI. RF Franmil Reyes (.237) was 2-for-3 with a RBI. DH Josh Van Meter (.250) was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Starting RHP Dinelson Lamet (5-7, 2.99 ERA) allowed a run on two hits and a walk with a strikeout in an inning. LHP Griffin Russell (4.15) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks with a strikeout in 3 1/3 innings. RHP T.J. Weir (4.25) allowed a run on two hits with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.

SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A TRI-CITY (36-33): Dust Devils 9, EVERETT 3 (shortented to 5 1Ž2 innings, rain): RF Justin Pacchioli (.234) was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, three RBIs and a run scored. 3B Carlos Belen (.219) hit his sixth homer in four at-bats. SS Peter Van Gansen (.271) was 2-for-3 with a run scored. DH Mason Smith (.224) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. 2B Mitch Morales (.256) had a double in two at-bats with a walk and two runs scored. CF Rod Boykin (.248) was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Starting RHP Angel Mejia (5-3, 5.28 ERA) allowed three runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in five innings.

ARIZONA ROOKIE PADRES (23-33): RANGERS 13, Padres 1 - Starting RHP Austin Smith (0-3, 7.94) allowed five runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts in two innings in the Padres' season finale. 1B Brad Zunica hit .271 and finished third in the ARL with seven homers. He also had eight doubles and 24 RBIs. LF Jhonatan Pena hit .304 with six doubles, two triples, four homers and 15 RBIs. Starting RHP Emmanuel Ramirez finished 4-2 with a 1.51 ERA. Starting RHP Joel Linares finished 3-3 with a 4.03 ERA.
