Ryan Butler didn't allow a run over six innings Thursday night to lower
his earned run average to under 1.00 and two other pitchers in the
Padres system didn't allow a run.

Butler, 23, allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks with six
strikeouts over six innings in high Single-A Lake Elsinore's 3-1
California League win at Inland Empire.

The right-handed Butler was the Padres' seventh-round pick last June
out of North Carolina-Charlotte. He is 3-1 this season with a 0.92 ERA
with 20 strikeouts against five walks in 29 1/3 innings for the Storm.

Veteran right-hander Zack Segovia, 32, who signed as a minor league
free agent, allowed three hits and two walks with six strikeouts in five
shutout innings in his debut for Double-A San Antonio. Segovia was
transferred from extended spring training earlier in the day.

And left-hander Thomas Dorminy, 22, allowed five hits and two walks
with four strikeouts in six shutout innings for low Single-A Fort Wayne.
Dorminy, 22, was a 10th-round pick last June out of Faulkner University.
He is 2-2 with the TinCaps with a 4.71 ERA.

Three hitters of note:

-- Catcher Austin Hedges was 2-for-4 with a run scored to raise his
batting average for Triple-A El Paso to .355.

-- Center fielder Travis Jankowski's 17-game hitting streak ended.
Jankowski (.356) was 0-for-3, but drew two walks and scored a run for
Double-A San Antonio. The hitting streak is the longest in the Texas
League this season.

-- Center fielder Michael Gettys, 19, the Padres' second-round pick last
June, hit his first homer for Fort Wayne. He was 2-for-4 to raise his
season average to .306.
