Padres recall INF/OF Kyle Blanks from Triple-A Tucson; Option RHP Thad Weber to Tucson

The San Diego Padres today announced that they have recalled infielder/outfielder Kyle Blanks from Triple-A Tucson and have optioned right-handed pitcher Thad Weber to the same Tucson club.  Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Blanks, 26, has hit .296 (8-for-27) with three doubles, one home run, four RBI and seven runs scored in eight games for the Tucson Padres so far this season.  The right-handed hitter hit .354 (23-for-65) with five doubles, a triple, three home runs, 14 RBI and 17 runs scored in Cactus League play this past Spring.  Over parts of four Major League seasons with the Padres (2009-12), he has hit .219 (93-for-425) with 22 doubles, two triples, 20 home runs, 63 RBI and 59 runs scored in 146 games played.   

Weber, 28, was selected from Triple-A Tucson on Friday, April 12.  The right-hander made his Padres debut last night, working a career-high 3.2 innings against the Colorado Rockies at Petco Park.  He has played in three Major League games total over parts of two seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2012) and Padres (2013), going 0-1 with a 7.04 ERA (6 ER/7.2 IP) in those three games.  Over parts of six minor league seasons in the Tigers (2008-12) and Padres (2012-13) organizations, he has gone 37-46 with a 4.02 ERA (311 ER/696.1 IP) in 119 games, 117 starts.
