Panik, Cain, Affeldt set to rejoin Giants

DENVER -- The Giants will be fortified over the next two days with a trio of players returning from the disabled list.

Joe Panik has finished rehabbing from lower back inflammation and was flying to Arizona on Sunday to meet the team for their series opener with the D-backs on Monday.

"He's going to join us tomorrow and be ready to go tomorrow," manager Bruce Bochy said. "I know we're facing a lefty, but good chance [he'll be in the lineup], I'll say that. I like the job [Kelby Tomlinson's] doing, but it would be nice to get Panik in there as soon as possible."

On Tuesday, the Giants expect to add Matt Cain (elbow nerve irritation) and Jeremy Affeldt (left knee subluxation) to the active roster. Affeldt threw a bullpen session Saturday and is ready to join the bullpen on Tuesday, according to Bochy, and Cain will make his final rehab appearance Monday with Triple-A Sacramento before also finishing the season in the bullpen.
