Parcells pays visit to Marlins camp

JUPITER, Fla. -- Former NFL coach and former vice president of the Dolphins Bill Parcells visited Marlins camp on Monday.

A longtime friend of Tony La Russa and Marlins general manager Dan Jennings, Parcells has come to know Marlins manager Mike Redmond as well.

A catcher during an unremarkable baseball career, Parcells said he had no strong opinion about the revised rules about home plate collisions. But he acknowledged he pretty much enjoyed them.

"The big guys usually do," he said.

Parcells often watches workouts and closely monitors technique. He very much enjoys the game and talking the game with his new acquaintances. Managing is not in his future, though.

Said Redmond. "I hope he's around a lot. I like to listen."
