Corbin, Hernandez throw live BP for first time since surgery

PHOENIX -- Pitchers Patrick Corbin and David Hernandez each threw live batting practice sessions for the first time Tuesday afternoon in their respective returns from Tommy John surgery.

"I thought both of them threw the ball well," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "The ball was coming out of their hand great."

Both pitchers threw 25 pitches and have been on a similar recovery path since their surgeries. Now, though, they will be on different tracks as Corbin will need to be stretched out as a starter. His recovery will take longer than Hernandez's, as a result.

"A lot of different emotions going on," Hernandez said. "I was just ready to get it over with. I felt like I made some good pitches and felt good coming out of it, so that was a good sign."

Hernandez will likely throw in an extended spring game Saturday, while Corbin will throw another session of batting practice before getting into an extended spring game.

"It was exciting," Corbin said. "Everything felt great, I wasn't thinking about the elbow at all. [I] was able to throw all my pitches and got some good feedback from some of the hitters."
