Goldschmidt widens lead in All-Star Game voting

ANAHEIM -- In the latest voting results announced Tuesday for the 2015 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot, D-backs first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has widened his lead over the Dodgers' Adrian Gonzalez.

Goldschmidt has 3,562,399 votes to 2,699,729 for Gonzalez, a margin of 862,670 votes. In last week's tally, Goldschmidt led Gonzalez by just 127,324 votes.

Goldschmidt is the only D-backs player to appear on the leaderboard for this year's Midsummer Classic, which will be played in Cincinnati on July 14. His vote totals have continued to trend upwards.

When the first vote totals were released, Goldschmidt was third behind Gonzalez and the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo. The next week, Goldschmidt moved up to second, and last week he climbed into first place.

Goldschmidt was elected as the NL starter at first base last year, becoming the first D-backs position player to start an All-Star Game since outfielder Luis Gonzalez in 2001.

Fans can cast their votes for starters at and all 30 club sites -- on their computers, tablets and smartphones -- using the 2015 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot until Thursday, July 2, at 9:59 p.m. MT. For the first time, voting is exclusively online, where fans may submit up to 35 ballots.
