Phils auctioning fan experiences to fight cancer
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Phillies are raising money to fight cancer with a pair of unique experiences for fans next season.
It is part of baseball's Winter Meetings charity auction, which has raised nearly $500,000 since its inception four years ago. A significant portion of the proceeds from this year's event will go to Stand Up To Cancer, a longtime partner of Major League Baseball, its founding donor in 2008.
In addition, this year's auction will benefit Do It For Durrett in honor of late Texas Rangers ESPN.com reporter Richard Durrett, who passed away suddenly last year, and the YouCaring page established for Miami Marlins Sun Sentinel beat writer Juan C. Rodriguez, who is battling a brain tumor.
The Phillies have two fan experiences up for auction:
1. Have dinner and watch a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park with Dallas Green and Charlie Manuel, who are the only two managers to win a World Series in franchise history.
2. Take a ride with the Phillie Phanatic on its Hatfield Hot Dog Launcher during the seventh inning of a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park. Fire a few hot dogs into the stands. Beforehand and afterward, sit in a pair of field-level seats.
