Pitcher - LHP, Hoby Milner, Clearwater… One start… 1-0, 0.00 ERA (7.2 IP) H, BB, 7 SO… Milner earns POW honors for the second time in three weeks… The left-hander has come into his own of late; over his last 10 starts he is 6-0, 1.72 ERA (12 ER, 62.2 IP), 60 SO, 11 BB… Milner, 22, is the son of former major league catcher Brian Milner… He was selected in the 7th round of the 2012 draft out of the University of Texas and signed by Steve Cohen.
Player - DH/INF, Willie Carmona, Lakewood… Six games… Batted .550 (11-for-20), 3 R, 2B, HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB… Carmona has hit safely in seven-consecutive games as of print (12-23, .552)… He has a team-best 16 multi-hit games this year… Carmona is batting .370 (27-73) since 5/21 and .393 (22-56) since 5/26... On 4/25 his average stood at .182, as of print he is batting .286… The 22-year-old was selected in the 11th round of the 2012 draft out of Stony Brook University (NY) and signed by Eric Valent.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division…36-33, 2nd place… 4-2 for the week… After a 5-4 walk-off win 6/16 vs SWB, the Pigs finished their eight-game set at Coca-Cola Park with a 6-2 record… LV has won seven of nine, and 12 of their last 16 games. Additionally, the club has gone 20-9 over their last 29 games since 5/16 when they stood at a season-worst eight games under the .500 mark at 16-24… LV has won 15 of their last 19 at home. After starting the season 2-7 at Coca-Cola Park, LV has gone 19-9 in their last 28 G at the friendly confines… 1B Cody Overbeck walked the Pigs off on 6/16 with a sac fly in the bottom of the 11th. For Overbeck it was his 4th career walk-off as an IronPig, a franchise record (those with 3: Castro, Gosewisch & Knott)… 3B Cody Asche has hit safely in 12 consecutive games (16-47, .340), 6 R, 3 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 4 RBI… For the week Asche hit .318 (7-22), 2 HR, SB… Over his last 11 G, OF/1B Darin Ruf is batting .343 (12-35), 9 R, 2 2B, HR, 8 RBI, 8 BB… For the week Ruf hit .333 (6-18), HR, 5 RBI, 5 BB… C Cameron Rupp earned a promotion from REA and had 4 H including 2 2B… LHP Jake Diekman continued his impressive run at triple-A, picking up another SV (11) prior to getting the call to Philadelphia… RHP Phillippe Aumont picked up a SV… RHP Cesar Jimenez made 3 scoreless appearances, picking up a W (6/16 vs SWB) and a SV (6/13 vs SWB).
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division…28-39, 6th place… 5-2 for the week… The Fightins are winners of four straight including a 3 G sweep of Richmond this past weekend… Reading pitching combined for a 2.80 ERA (19 ER, 61.0 IP)… Reading's starters have combined to post a 1.74 ERA (8 ER, 41.1 IP), allowing 3 R or less over the last 6 G… The rotation has struck out 35 batters in 41.1 IP (7.62 SO/9.0 IP) while walking just 12… Additionally, opponents are hitting just .194 (28-144) against Reading starters over the last 6 G… RHP David Buchanan went 1-0, 7.0 IP, 3 H, R, BB, 7 SO… LHP Austin Wright, in 2 starts, 2-0, 11.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 11 SO… LHP Jesse Biddle- ND, 5.0 IP, ER, 7 SO in 1 start… RHP Brody Colvin made his 1st start since joining the Reading bullpen 5/1- ND, 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 5 SO… RHP Luis Garcia, in 3 appearances, went 1-0, SV, 4.0 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 7 SO… LHP Jay Johnson made 4 scoreless appearances in relief… RHP Tyler Knigge earned a SV and made 3 scoreless appearances… 1B Jim Murphy hit safely in all 6 games, batting .304 (7-23) 2 2B… OF Anthony Hewitt belted 2 HR and swiped 3 bags… C Sebastian Valle (3-4, 2 RBI) in Reading's 4-3 win 6/13 vs Bowie… 2B Albert Cartwright had 7 H and 4 R in 7 G.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division…34-31, 4th place… 1-3 for the week… Clearwater played only 4 due to the All-Star Break… 3B Maikel Franco is making quite a name for himself as he batted .389 (7-18), 4 HR, 7 RBI in only 4 games. He hit safely in all 4 G, with 2 H in 3 of the 4 games. He homered in 3 of the 4 games including 2 in Clearwater's 6-0 W 6/12 vs St. Lucie. At the time of print, Franco has both the FSL and organizational lead in the following categories: total bases (152), RBI (52), doubles (23) and HR (16)… OF Kelly Dugan batted .400 (6-15), HR, 2B, 5 BB… Dugan is batting .349 (59-169) on the year which leads both the FSL and organization… LHP Hoby Milner earned Player of the Week honors for the 2nd time in three weeks (1-0, 7.2 IP, BB, 7 SO)… Over his last 10 starts he is 6-0, 1.72 ERA (12 ER, 62.2 IP), 60 SO, 11 BB… RHP Juan Sosa struck out 6 in 4.0 scoreless innings allowing only 1 H… RHP Severino Gonzalez (3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 5 SO, 0 BB) continues to limit free passes while racking up the K's. As of print Gonzalez's ERA has fallen to 0.37 (1 ER, 24.2 IP) with 30 SO to only 2 BB.
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League North Division…26-41, 7th place… 2-5 for the week… Lakewood has completed the first half of the 2013 season… DH/INF Willie Carmona batted .550 (11-20) HR, 2B, 6 RBI, earning Player of the Week honors… 3B Mitch Walding batted .320 (8-25), 7 R, HR, 2B, 4 RBI. Walding went 3-5 and belted his first HR of the season in LWD's 11-5 W over Hagerstown on 6/14… OF Carlos Tocci batted .333 (6-18), 2B including a 3 H performance 6/16 at HAG… Tocci has hit safely in 5 of his last 6 G… SS Roman Quinn swiped his 30th base of the season which ties his total from last year at Williamsport… 1B Art Charles had 7 BB and sports a .389 OBP over his last 10 G… RHP Shane Watson made 1 start (5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 SO)… LHP Yoel Mecias picked up the W in his only start (5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 7 SO)… RHP Chris Nichols allowed 2 unearned runs in 7.0 relief innings… RHP Jeb Stefan made two appearances in relief, holding the opposition scoreless over 3.0 innings.
