Phillies to host championship games for local colleges on Wednesday

Top area baseball players compete for Phillies' Bill Giles Invitational & Liberty Bell Classic Championship Titles, presented by GDF Suez

On Wednesday, April 15, local colleges will compete at Citizens Bank Park for the Phillies' Bill Giles Invitational and Liberty Bell Classic championship titles, presented by GDF Suez. Both games are open to the public. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the West ticket windows, and entrance to the ballpark will be through the Majestic Clubhouse Store. Gates open at 2:45 p.m. Parking is free in Lot S, located off Pattison Avenue.

BILL GILES INVITATIONAL, WEDNESDAY, 3:30 P.M.

On Wednesday, April 15 at 3:30 p.m. the West Chester University Golden Rams will take on the Wilmington University Wildcats in the championship game of the Bill Giles Invitational at Citizens Bank Park.

The semi-final round of the 15th Annual Bill Giles Invitational began Saturday, March 21, with the Wilmington University Wildcats defeating the Philadelphia University Rams, 9-1. The West Chester University Golden Rams defeated the University of the Sciences Devils 10-5 on Thursday, April 9, at West Chester to advance to the finals.

The Bill Giles Invitational was introduced in 2001 and is a Division II college baseball tournament. For more information, please visit here

LIBERTY BELL CLASSIC, WEDNESDAY, 7:30 P.M.

The Rider University Broncos will play the Villanova University Wildcats in the 24th Annual Liberty Bell Classic championship game at Citizens Bank Park, on Wednesday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m.

Semi-final action took place on Tuesday, April 7, where Villanova University defeated University of Pennsylvania, 9-3, and Rider University defeated LaSalle University, 5-2.

The Liberty Bell Classic was created in 1992 as a way for local Division I colleges to compete against each other in a tournament and have the opportunity to play on a Major League field. For more information, please visit http://mlb.mlb.com/phi/community/liberty_bell.jsp.
