Pirates acquire Steve Lombardozzi

The Pirates have acquired infielder Steve Lombardozzi from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations.   Lombardozzi has also received an invite to Major League spring training camp.

The 26-year-old Lombardozzi hit .288 (21-for-73) in 20 games with Baltimore in 2014 and .270 (73-for-270) in 78 games with Triple-A Norfolk, where he made 38 appearances at second base, 22 in left field, 16 at third base and five at shortstop. In his 20 game with the Orioles, he made all 20 defensive appearances (17 starts) at second base.

Originally selected by Washington in the 19th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, the switch-hitting Lombardozzi made his Major League debut with the Nationals in 2011 and has produced a .266 batting average in 277 career big league games. He appeared in a career-high 126 games with Washington during the 2012 season.

Please note that Lombardozzi is not the "player to be named later" in the Travis Snider/Baltimore deal from January 27.
