Pirates announce 2015 Spring Training broadcast schedule

All Pirates Spring Training dates to be covered via television, radio or webcast

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced the complete broadcast schedule for the team's 2015 Spring Training Grapefruit League games. The broadcast schedule begins with the team's Spring Training Opener vs. the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin, a 1:05 p.m. radio broadcast on Tuesday, March 3.

Fans will have the opportunity to watch or listen on every scheduled date during the Pirates 2015 Grapefruit League season via team official broadcast partners ROOT SPORTS and SPORTSRADIO 93-7 THE FAN, the Pirates Radio Network and webcasts on pirates.com.

ROOT SPORTS will carry FIVE Pirates Spring Training games this Grapefruit League season, including the final Spring Training night game in Philadelphia on Friday, April 3. Coverage of Spring Training games will start with a 30-minute Pregame and conclude with a 30-minute Postgame show. In all, ROOT SPORTS will broadcast three afternoon games and two night contests. They include:

  • Sunday, March 15 vs. Baltimore Orioles at 1:05 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 17 vs. Houston Astros at 1:05 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 18 vs. Detroit Tigers at 6:05 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 21 vs. Boston Red Sox at 1:05 p.m.
  • Friday, April 3 at Philadelphia Phillies (Philadelphia) at 7:05 p.m.

In addition to five Spring Training games, ROOT SPORTS will also air exclusive Pirates programming prior to the start of the season with new editions of Inside Pirates Baseball, with an in-depth Spring Training show and a 2015 Season Preview. Also scheduled are the popular Pirates Playbacks, a replay of a game from the Pirates 2014 season every Monday night at 7 p.m. through March 9.

On the radio side, SPORTSRADIO 93-7 The Fan and the Pirates Radio Network will carry a total of 16 Spring Training contests, beginning with the Spring Training Opener. It will also include both games in Philadelphia at the end of the spring schedule. In addition to the broadcast schedule, the Pirates exclusive radio partner will provide complete updates throughout the entire Spring Training schedule that begins when pitchers and catchers first workout at Pirate City on February 19.

All Pirates Grapefruit League games not telecast on ROOT SPORTS or broadcast on SPORTSRADIO 93-7 The Fan, can be heard via webcast at pirates.com. The team's online site will carry up to 14 Spring Training broadcasts this season beginning with the Pirates Spring Training Home Opener on Wednesday, March 4 vs. the Blue Jays.

Steve Blass, Greg Brown, Tim Neverett, Bob Walk and John Wehner will once again call the action throughout the 2015 season. Brown and Neverett will handle the play-by-play duties while Blass, Walk and Wehner serve as color analysts.
