Pirates Charities To Hold Fifth Annual Pittsburgh Pirates 5K Run

Annual 5K Home Run and Chick-fil-A One Mile Family Fun Run to Take Place on the North Shore

Pirates Charities, the official philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates, announced the fifth annual Pittsburgh Pirates 5K Home Run, presented by Highmark and Allegheny Health Network, scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2015. The morning event will take place on Pittsburgh's North Shore, starting on Federal Street and runners will finish by crossing home plate inside PNC Park. Fans are encouraged to begin to register now at pirates.com/5KHomeRun.

The race is open to fans of all ages and abilities with staggered start times beginning at 8 a.m. Timing chips will be assigned at pre-event packet pick-up and on race morning. Competitive runners can choose to run in the 5K individually or take part in the team challenge, where teams of four runners can compete against other teams based on average overall time. Top male and female individual runners in each age group (under 15, 16-19 and 10 year age groups from 20 to 70-plus), as well as top male, female and co-ed teams, will be recognized on the field at PNC Park prior to the Pirates vs. Cubs game on Tuesday, April 21st at PNC Park.

Fans who do not wish to run may still participate by walking the 5K route. Families may also take part by joining the Chick-fil-A One Mile Family Fun Run. The One Mile Fun Run course also includes the route inside PNC Park and is open to families of any size.

All 5K participants will receive a specially designed commemorative Pittsburgh Pirates 5K Home Run medal as they cross the finish line (see below).

Registration for 5K participants is $31 per person before February 28, $33 per person before March 31 and $35 per person starting April 1. Team registrations are available for $120 per team. Registration for the Chick-Fil-A One Mile Family Fun Run is $10 per child ages 14 and under and $15 per person 15-years-old and up.

All participants are invited to the post-race party that will be held on Federal Street immediately following the event and will feature complimentary food and beverages. In addition to the commemorative medal, participants will receive a Pirates Charities 5K Home Run tech t-shirt and a ticket voucher good for a complimentary ticket to any one Pirates game at PNC Park between April 18 and April 23, 2015. Family Fun Run participants will receive a specially designed, commemorative Family Fun Run t-shirt and a ticket voucher good for a complimentary ticket to any one Pirates home game at PNC Park between April 18 and April 23, 2015.

Participants will also be offered complimentary parking, courtesy of ALCO Parking.

In 2014, over 5,000 participants took part in the fourth annual 5k Home Run and raised nearly $137,000 to help support Pirates Charities' many local community and charitable initiatives.
