Several Pirates eye first trip to postseason

DENVER -- The Pirates are headed toward their third straight postseason appearance, but outfielders Keon Broxton and Jaff Decker, catcher Elias Diaz, infielder Pedro Florimon and pitchers Arquimedes Caminero and Rob Scahill were not with the club last September when it clinched a playoff berth. So they are on the verge of heading into some uncharted Major League territory.

"There can be some anticipation," manager Clint Hurdle said. "And if you've never experienced it before, you're going to act like you have. Or you're just not going to say anything because it's not your spot and you're just going to hope it happens, and then you'll react in an appropriate way."

Harkening back to his days with the Mets and their former general manager, Hurdle said, "I think Frank Cashen said it a long time ago, 'Sometimes it's amazing, the celebration. The guys that do the least celebrate the most.' We kind of remind our guys that there's an appropriate way to celebrate at all times."
