Pirates yet to announce starter for Sunday

MIAMI -- The Pirates are delaying the announcement of Sunday's starter as long as they can.

Manager Clint Hurdle said on Friday before the series opener against the Marlins that he still hasn't decided who will fill in for Francisco Liriano, who landed on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain on Wednesday.

"I gave them a couple names of guys in consideration the other day," Hurdle said. "We moved one out the other day, [Casey] Sadler was one of them, [Stolmy] Pimentel's one of them, [Vance] Worley would be one of them."

Worley is rumored to get the call, especially considering he was scratched from his scheduled Friday night start for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians. The bespectacled right-hander is 3-2 with a 4.30 ERA in 46 innings across seven starts at Indianapolis. He has struck out 43 hitters and given up just four walks.

But Hurdle said Worley isn't his only option.

Although Sadler was optioned back to Indianapolis on Thursday, the Pirates still have Pimentel to make the spot start. Pimentel was activated from the DL the day Liriano was put on it. Pimentel never made a Major League start, but he did make 148 of them in the Minors.
