Pirates lose challenge early on Gordon's transfer

Dodgers second baseman drops ball; out call confirmed on replay review

LOS ANGELES -- The Pirates lost a first-inning challenge in Saturday's game against the Dodgers, when the call of a force at second was confirmed despite second baseman Dee Gordon's drop of the ball as he attempted to turn a double play.

Josh Harrison was aboard with a leadoff single off left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu when Neil Walker bounced to third baseman Justin Turner.

Gordon gloved Turner's throw for the force but had the ball squirt out of his glove and to the ground as he tried to transfer it to his throwing hand.

Upon review, second-base umpire Chris Guccione's call was confirmed.
