Poreda gets call over Scheppers, Feliz

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers called up pitcher Aaron Poreda on Wednesday to replace Alexi Ogando, who was placed on the disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow.

The move left pitcher Tanner Scheppers wondering when the Rangers will take him off the disabled list.

"I'm waiting for that conversation," Scheppers said. "I feel good, I feel like I am ready to go. What they're thinking of is out of my control."

Scheppers has been on the disabled list since April 18 with inflammation in his right elbow. He has made five appearances on a medical rehab assignment, the last one being on Tuesday night when he needed just six pitches to throw a scoreless inning against Double-A Frisco.

Manager Ron Washington said the Rangers did not discuss Scheppers when making their roster move on Wednesday. Instead they went with Poreda, the left-hander who was 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 15 games for the Rangers before being sent down last week to make room for Joe Saunders.

"Poreda didn't do anything to leave so when the opportunity came to come back … he's back," Washington said. "Scheppers will be back soon. I don't know when but he'll be back soon."

The Rangers also decided to keep Neftali Feliz at Triple-A Round Rock. Feliz has pitched three scoreless innings in his last three games, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out four.

"His last three outings we are starting to see progress with his fastball angle," Rangers pitching coordinator Danny Clark said. "His velocity is still not what we're hoping for, topping out at 95. His slider is showing better tilt but still needing more consistency."
