Brewers add righty Guilmet to bullpen

MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers added a waiver claim to their flurry of non-waiver Trade Deadline deals, picking up right-handed reliever Preston Guilmet from the Dodgers and adding him to their bullpen.

Guilmet joins right-hander Tyler Thornburg as new additions to Milwaukee's relief corps this weekend against the Cubs. Two 25-man roster spots opened earlier Friday when the team traded Gerardo Parra to the Orioles and Jonathan Broxton to the Cardinals.

Guilmet, 28, is not a hard thrower, but he has been terrific in the Minor Leagues, sporting a 2.69 ERA in 262 games, including a 2.48 ERA in 115 appearances at the Triple-A level. In limited Major League duty, he has allowed 15 earned runs in 21 innings over parts of three seasons for the Indians, Orioles and Rays.

The Brewers are Guilmet's seventh organization in the past two years -- fifth since the end of last season -- and third this month. He had just been claimed off waivers by the Dodgers from the Rays on July 10, and he was designated for assignment Thursday, amid a flurry of Dodgers acquisitions.
