Puig day to day with strained thumb ligament

LOS ANGELES -- Yasiel Puig was not in the lineup on Sunday night, instead he was getting an MRI on his injured left thumb after X-rays came up negative.

"It's a strain of that thumb ligament," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly following his team's 6-2 win over the Giants. "We'll know a lot more [Monday] as the strength comes back in there."

Mattingly said that at this time, he did not think a DL stint was imminent.

"Talking today with [Stan Conte, VP of medical services], [the DL] never came up," said Mattingly. "I've got a feeling it's more of a day-to-day thing."

With Monday's off-day, Puig will have nearly three full days off before potentially facing the Tigers on Tuesday night.
