Puig's extra-base hit streak sets club record

Dodgers right fielder belts two-run homer in third inning to extend mark

PHOENIX -- Yasiel Puig has streaked into the Dodgers' record books.

Puig extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a two-run home run in the third inning Saturday night. The hit also set a franchise record with at least one extra-base hit and one RBI in each of the past eight games and tied the club record with at least one RBI in eight consecutive games.

"I've been working really hard so things can turn out the way I have prepared them," Puig said. "I give thanks to God and I give a lot of credit to my teammates and coaches for how things have turned out. I'm working really hard, and I feel really comfortable at the plate."

Overall, Puig ranks among the league leaders in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and batting average with runners in scoring position. On Friday night, the right fielder went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double.

"I'm trying to get hits and put a swing at good pitches," Puig said. "I wasn't worried hitting for the cycle [Friday] or anything like that."
