Raburn slugs his way to AL Player of Week honors

Right fielder hit .591 with four home runs, nine RBIs in team's five-game span

Indians right fielder Ryan Raburn was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday after batting .591 with four homers.

Raburn went 13-for-22 with nine RBIs and five runs scored over five games to win his first weekly award, the first one taken home by a Cleveland player since Asdrubal Cabrera on April 11, 2011. Raburn led the AL in batting average, slugging percentage (1.182) and total bases (26) on the week and tied for first in on-base percentage (.591), tied for second in homers and finished fourth overall in RBIs.

Raburn went 11-for-13 with four homers from Monday to Wednesday.

Has he ever had a hot streak like that?

"No, probably not to this extent," Raburn said. "I'm just really focusing on trying to have good, quality at-bats and I'm not really worried about the results. The results right now are falling in. I'm just trying to have good at-bats and after that, see where it takes me, because you can hit balls hard and get outs. You can't control where the ball goes. The only thing you can control is having a quality at-bat, and hopefully it falls your way."

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Raburn is just the fourth Major Leaguer since 1939 with at least 11 hits and four homers over a three-game span, joining Hall of Famers Duke Snider (1955) and Kirby Puckett (1987), and two-time All-Star Shawn Green (2002). Raburn was also the first player since San Diego's Kevin Kouzmanoff (August 2009) to pick up 11 hits in a span of 12 at-bats.

Raburn matched a career-high four hits on Monday, including two homers and four RBIs, in a 9-0 win over the Royals. He hit two more homers on Tuesday, part of the Tribe's seven-homer outburst in a 14-2 win over the Phillies, to become Cleveland's first player with consecutive multihomer games since Travis Hafner on July 19-20, 2004.
