Rangers affiliate tosses 11-inning no-hitter

The Northwest League of Class A short-season ball saw some history on Sunday when the Spokane Indians threw a combined no-hitter against the Everett AquaSox … in 11 innings at Everett (Wash.) Memorial Stadium.

The game was scoreless -- and hitless for Everett -- through nine innings, but Spokane right fielder and cleanup hitter Luke Tender blasted a three-run home run in the top of the 11th to give the Indians, an affiliate of the Texas Rangers, all the runs they'd need in the 3-0 win.

Up until that point, Everett starter Ryan Yarbrough and relievers Brett Ash, Cody Kerski and Cruz Pereira (for one inning) had shut out Spokane and kept the game at 0-0 despite being no-hit, but Spokane broke through against Pereira in the 11th.

Meanwhile, the pitching performance put on by Spokane was nothing short of spectacular. Starter Derek Thompson no-hit Everett, a Seattle Mariners affiliate managed by former big league catcher and Mariners and MLB Network broadcaster Dave Valle, through the first five innings, striking out five and walking one. Shane McCain took over and was perfect in the sixth, seventh and eighth, striking out five.

Adam Parks pitched perfect baseball in the ninth and 10th, striking out three and qualifying for the win, and Luis Pollorena polished off the rare no-no with a hitless 11th, walking one and striking out one for his third save of the season.
