Rangers-Cubs rained out; no makeup announced

Ogando scheduled to start Thursday, but Chicago forecast not promising

CHICAGO -- The Rangers game with the Cubs on Wednesday at Wrigley Field was washed away by rain, with no makeup date yet to be set.

The two teams will try again at 1:20 p.m. CT on Thursday for what should have been the third game of the three-game series. But it will be just one game. The two teams are not going to play a doubleheader, even though this is the Rangers' only trip to Wrigley Field this year. Part of the problem is more rain is forecast for Thursday, even though the Cubs are hoping they can get one game played.

"Hopefully the weathermen are wrong, but they weren't wrong today," Rangers manager Ron Washington said.

Justin Grimm was scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, but the postponement forced Texas to alter its schedule. Grimm will be bumped back to Sunday against the Mariners.

The Rangers are still going to pitch Alexi Ogando on Thursday against the Cubs and Yu Darvish on Friday against the Mariners. Nick Tepesch is scheduled for Saturday against the Mariners.

"We just wanted to keep all those other guys on schedule, that's all that is," Washington said.

Derek Holland will get an extra day. He was scheduled to pitch on Sunday, but the Rangers will push him back on Monday so he can pitch the first game of a three-game series against the Angels in Anaheim.

Darvish was already given an extra couple of days off because of Monday's off-day. One reason was to help the blister on his right ring finger, and that seems to have helped. Darvish threw a bullpen session on Tuesday without any problems.

"It's perfect," Darvish said.

The two dates that are being discussed as makeup dates are May 6 and May 9. Both teams are off those days and the Rangers play a two-game series with the Brewers on May 7-8 in Milwaukee.
